The solution when renovating smoked floors, even if they are 30 years old!

Pre-staining with stain

When renovating wood floors, staining is one option. Many floor fitters are reluctant, however, because applying stain requires a lot of precision. "I too experienced as a parquet installer that there are snags and eyes to stain," says Han Dorenbos, technical advisor at RIGO Verffabriek. "You quickly continue to see a drop or deposit, every stroke has to be right and the risk of staining is high." 

"Yet that is not necessary, because one stain is not the other. After my transition of the floor to RIGO, I wanted to be completely familiar with our color stain before I went to the customer." Quite a few square meters of floor were laid down in the test room at the factory and Dorenbos got to work. "I was stunned that it works so well! As it turns out, the ROYL Reactive Stain is a bit more lumpy and colors to a maximum, but not beyond that."

Ease of application and brushless

Setting up is easiest in pairs, according to Dorenbos. "One sets up the stain from a paint tray, the other polishes the stain evenly with a polisher fitted with a white pad. A color difference can be quickly and easily resolved in the wet work by applying some extra stain to the lighter spot and rubbing it evenly. In doing so, you can simply walk over the surface just stained, or stand in it. Drops or footprints on the bare wood will not remain visible as long as you saturate the wood with the stain to the maximum."

Almost infinite color palette

According to Han, ROYL Reactive Stain is a product that fits well with today's demand. "Smoked floors have been popular for more than 30 years. Now it's time to renovate them. There are times when the floor doesn't even out because the smoked or stained effect has soaked too deeply into the wood. That's a tricky problem, but with ROYL Reactive Stain you can still pre-color a stained floor to be even again."

The ROYL Reactive Stain by itself does not provide protection, that is provided by the oil finish. It also gives the floor its final color. "With the handy color samples you can create samples in no time. The stain is available in three mutually mixable colors. Diluting with water decreases the color strength. The oil comes in 45 standard colors, which can also be mixed together. So there are an awful lot of shades possible. You can therefore match a floor that is already there. This is better than having to sand and color everything. You can also offer a unique color." 

Would the customer prefer a lacquered floor? Then there is the SKYLT Overpaintable Color Oil. This is available in the same colors as ROYL Oil and then protected by 2 coats of SKYLT topcoat. "ROYL Reactive Stain is sold in 1 liter bottles. In addition, we have made ROYL Oil 2K especially for the cabinetmaker in half-liter bottles by color, in seven different colors."
