In-house concrete sinks and faucets

Of course, Thebalux is already busy delivering the products it introduced in the spring. The manufacturer of bathroom furniture is also working hard on next year's novelties. The main theme: concrete.

2022 was all about a new line of toilet furniture for Thebalux, called Sjithousefurniture. Manager Office, Sales & Export Tjerk Erich: "In the spring, the books went out to our customers. In the meantime, we are generating the first sales from those, which are coming in steadily. At the same time, we are always looking ahead, developing new sinks, mirrors and more."

Thebalux's offerings include the Sjithousefurniture, Thebalux and Type lines. "We are currently working on new sinks made of concrete, which we are having produced in-house. This is because the industrial style and the use of other materials are very popular. The 'Rugged' falls under the Type concept, but probably also under Thebalux. We have had concrete in our range for a few years, but we find that the end user often stumbles over the price. By making the concrete sinks in-house, we can offer them cheaper. The price level is then roughly at the level of a ceramic sink." 

Deep, industrial sink 

Erich explains what was involved in developing the new product. "We got in touch with a manufacturer who was able to make the product. Then followed a period of making drawings and working out ideas. We chose a classic 'trough' design, where the basin is a bit deeper, to be able to wash hands without splashing. Next, the sink needed an industrial look, but not too sleek. We therefore slightly beveled the front edges and sides." The practical properties of the material were very important. "The concrete is coated so that water does not soak into it. To test this, we left water in the container for days. We also left pure detergents on the material for 72 hours." 

Concrete is gray, but one gray color is not the other, according to Erich. "We were looking for the real concrete gray. That took a lot of time. When we were finally completely satisfied, the sink could go into production." 

Thebalux offers five width sizes, namely 60, 80, 100, 120 and 140cm. "In the Type line, we offer the sink combined with black metal frames with inserts, a new faucet and new mirror. In the Sjithousefurniture series belong a fountain basin and surface-mounted bowl, from the same concrete. For the surface-mounted bowl, there is also a plate made of concrete, and even the plate at the bottom of the frame is made of this material."

The company will also release faucets under its own label. "However, we have no intention of marketing a faucet brand, but we did want to complete the Sjithousefurniture story. With fountain taps, but also a siphon, so that customers can order it as a whole." 

From this idea came more. "For bathroom furniture, we designed the faucet Thor, a tough, modern faucet with a ribbed shape on the handle. We are going to offer a sink version in a high, low and wall model, but we are also including a bath-shower thermostat including a sliding rod set in our range." 

This Thor series will be available in chrome, gunmetal, matte black and stainless steel.
