Appropriate solutions for ceiling and wall

Derako uses solid wood to produce durable, environmentally friendly and aesthetically pleasing ceilings, walls and facades. Sita Vleer, marketing and communications manager, answers some interesting questions, about the company and the possibilities of its solid wood systems.

What sets Derako apart?

What are the advantages of wood versus another finishing material?

"We are actually selling CO2 storage. Solid wood minimizes environmental impact, is completely biodegradable and renewable. We consciously buy our wood from sawmills that plant new trees. In addition, wood is characteristic, timeless, with good acoustic values. Our systems are Cradle 2 Cradle Silver certified and contribute to obtaining credits within BREEAM and LEED. Also, all Derako systems are fully demountable and the raw materials that remain can be reused in the circular economy."

What products (product lines) do you offer?

"For ceiling and wall, Derako has two main systems: The Grill System, with upright wooden slats for more depth. And the Linear System, with horizontal wooden slats. These are divided into four product lines: Base-line, Pro-line, Exclusive-line and Cloak Wood. The Base-line is our basic solution while Pro-Line offers customer specific solutions within the options of different material types. With the Exclusive-Line it is possible to add aesthetically enriching shapes and effects with full design freedom. The new Linear and Grill Cloak Wood make it possible to design with natural wood veneers."

How does Derako give space to the creativity of architects and developers?

"We manage the entire process from design to production and that is also our strength. We think along with the customer, but we also provide guidance and advice during assembly. So we always find a suitable solution within our systems and the possibilities with wood. Nothing is impossible for our technical department. We are particularly good at special ceilings." 

What projects are you currently working on? 

"For a building in Poland, we are currently producing +/- 6000 m² Grill ceiling and wall system. Due to our industrial production process and cooperation with various partners, we are a reliable supplier even now that all raw materials are hard to come by and prices are rising. Recently we completed a unique bamboo ceiling in the Netherlands with Afbouw Nederland."
