Award ceremony has become a fixture
During the well-attended Trespa | Archicomm event on January 15 at Castle De Vanenburg in Putten, the Centrada Lelystad project was named Project of the Year 2025. The winning architect was Naomi Even. The election was organized for the third time and is growing into a fixture within architect country.

The winning project involves the renovation of Centrada's headquarters in Lelystad. When the facade cladding discolored and came off after 25 years, a simple replacement would have been the obvious choice. Instead, the choice was made for a fundamental quality impulse, in which the appearance had to better match the identity of the organization. The new facade is constructed with Trespa Meteon® Lumen in combination with Uni Colours. Four panels in one color, but with different finishes, create a facade that reacts strongly to light. Depending on season, weather and viewing direction, the perception of the building changes. One color thus takes on four different guises.
In addition to aesthetics, functionality played an important role. The low-maintenance and robust panels reduce the management burden for years to come. Implementation by Salverda Bouw and H&S Montage was organized efficiently, including preparatory work in a shed opposite the office. Supplier Jongeneel managed to limit material losses to under ten percent with a clever sawing plan. The combination of architectural quality, practical sustainability and strong chain cooperation was the deciding factor in the vote for many attendees.

The second prize went to architect Rigobert Nivillac (Studio Leon Thier / Wubben Chan architects) for the Koploper project in Gouda. Right next to the NS railway station, a sustainable building with 156 social housing units and facilities emerged. The design fits in with the quirky identity of the developing Spoorzone. Verdouw Bouwproducten acted as supplier. The third prize was for Imagine Rotterdam: two residential towers on Laan op Zuid, connected by a plinth with owner-occupied and rental housing around a green courtyard. The design is by Barcode Architects. FLOW cladding and Jongeneel took care of the execution.

In addition to the awards ceremony, a documentary was screened about last year's 12 nominees and there were two interactive panel discussions led by moderator Jerry Helmers. The first focused on practical sustainability. Tierra Outdoor, manufacturer of garden furniture, explained how Trespa panels are used in their collection. The topic of the second panel discussion was determined live by ChatGPT. Four visitors from the audience took their seats on stage and discussed whether sustainable building is mainly marketing and whether building less is the real profit. The social role of the architect was also discussed. The conclusion? The architect has authority, but must emphatically choose his position to avoid mediocrity.
In addition, visitors were introduced to Jørgen Hauritz, Country Manager Netherlands and UK for Trespa since last year. He emphasized the international reputation of Dutch architects, but called for staying sharp on creativity in changing times. Organizer Jim Wolters looks back with satisfaction; as far as he is concerned, the fourth edition in 2027 is definitely on the program.
