Lighting expertise at the highest level

The mission of lighting specialist in-lite is clear. The company wants to make outdoors special. As one of the few lighting companies, in-lite focuses entirely on outdoor lighting. The specialist provides lighting for many special projects, at home and abroad. One of these projects was the lighting of, and around, Villa Zonnehoek in Rotterdam Kralingen.

Senior LAB Specialist Thijs van Zessen. "Villa Zonnehoek is a monumental old villa in the middle of the city. Over the past two years, the property has been completely renovated and the garden has also been addressed. Gardener Rus Hartland Gardens, who was already working on the property's garden, engaged us. It was a big project, with a sizable plot. The owner of the stately villa wanted to get everything right, including the lighting."

The importance of sightlines

In-lite LAB then visited the location to take stock of what everything looked like. "Then our in-lite LAB designers created a lighting plan for both lighting the garden and the house. Here, of course, what the landscaper was going to do was also important." 

Van Zessen explains that sightlines were especially important in this process. "Because Villa Zonnehoek is a large building, there are many places to sit inside. That creates a lot of sight lines from inside to outside. This was the starting point of the lighting plan. We made sure in the lighting plan that there is something interesting to see from all these sight lines."

In addition, in-lite also consciously plays with the look of the property, which is markedly different inside than outside. "With this property we looked at what is happening inside and tried to translate this to the outside. Although this is a stately old villa, the interior is quite modern. That's why we chose to use our modern fixtures from the EVO series. That lighting connects nicely to the lighting plan inside. We presented this plan on site to the owner, who was very enthusiastic about it." 

The EVO concept stands for design and premium quality. The luminaires have an architectural design. The fixtures have a "diamond cut" lens that spreads the light beautifully and evenly. The anodized housing not only gives EVO a premium look, but also makes the luminaire extremely weatherproof. EVO is available in integrated, free-standing, wall-mounted and surface-mounted fixtures.

The lighting from in-lite is intended to show off both the garden and the property beautifully. "The landscaper engaged us because this is exactly our expertise. We are totally focused on outdoor lighting. An architect and landscaper both have broad professions: they need to know something about many different elements. Therefore, they like to engage us as a specialist. We deal purely with outdoor lighting and excel in this niche. In this we are one of the few, as a lighting specialist, who focuses entirely on outdoor lighting."
