Bruges appeals to young and old alike with its historic center and vibrant city life. What if you could also live in a green setting within walking distance of these major attractions? Then you’ve come to the right place. With the new Avenue residential development, the region is gaining 11 modern, dual-aspect apartments and 2 retail spaces. Traditional brickwork and modern wood-look louvers are the key elements of the timeless facade.
Two old homes on a major access road to Bruges (BE) made way for a contemporary project featuring a mix of apartments. The light interior colors provide a beautiful contrast to the darker facade elements in Linarte Wood Design. This was a deliberate choice by project developer Bossuyt Vastgoed to move away from ‘classic’ architectural concrete. “Initially, we were considering wood profiles,” says project manager Baptiste Bossuyt. “But the architect told us about Linarte Wood Design. The warm appearance of wood, good fire safety, and minimal maintenance all came together here, so we decided to wait for its launch.”

Architect Tom Jonckheere of Jonckheere Architects adds: “We’ve already used aluminum in numerous projects to create a stylish connection between the windows. However, using the same color as the window frames can quickly become monotonous, especially in a tall building like this one. Wood adds a nice touch of variety, but it fades in the sun and gets dirty quickly. Moreover, we needed to neatly integrate the garage door into the facade. Linarte’s capabilities met all our requirements, especially with the aesthetic added value of the new wood-look finish.”

The decision to use Linarte also had a positive impact on the schedule. This is because facade cladding is often scheduled for the end of the construction timeline to avoid damage from other construction activities. “Working with Linarte gave us more flexibility in the schedule,” says architect Tom Jonckheere. “If a slat gets damaged during the construction phase, you can replace it fairly easily and at little extra cost. So it wasn’t necessary to schedule this as late as possible in the construction process. Moreover, the system offers advantages even after completion, such as the ability to quickly and inexpensively conceal additional cables behind the cladding.”
